The New Moon at 6’ Taurus 27 on April 26th 2017 by Margaret Gray

‘At anytime you can decide to live a life that says ” I love myself” ‘
― Renae A. Sauter

Key Planetary Energies Today:

The only aspect to this New Moon is a trine to the North Node in Virgo/sextile the Sth Node in Pisces (5’ orb). However there are some other lingering aspects in the sky including Venus still within 2’ of Chiron in Pisces, as well as being within 2’ of the square to Saturn Rx in Sagittarius! The most powerful aspect right now however, is likely to be the conjunction between Mercury Rx and Uranus in Aries, which will be exact on Friday!

So how is all of this likely to affect us?

Individually:

After a few weeks of intense and at times very uneasy planetary activity in the sky, this New Moon in the earthy sign of Taurus offers us a brief window of peaceful respite.

The essence of Taurus energy is about being grounded in the earthy material plane of the natural world. It thrives on security, stability, continuity, comfort and beauty. As one of the two rulers of Venus, Taurus is a very sensual sign, which at its best can help anchor us in our body and remind us of the rhythms of nature and the practical necessities of everyday life. Although Aphrodite enjoyed relationships, intense emotions were not her strongest suit. Similarly Taurus prefers to remain on the familiar plain of matter, rather than delve into the intangible depths of the underworld where the complexity of our shadow emotions lie. Yet, as with all signs, at some point there is a requirement to integrate the shadow aspect of the energies, which for Taurus lie in the opposite sign of Scorpio who naturally and comfortably inhabits the underworld of emotional complexity.

As this is a New Moon rather than a Full Moon, the emphasis is on the Taurean side of the Taurus/Scorpio axis. However, don’t be surprised if the new seeds that are planted in your life at this time may also include a Scorpio dimension, such as the passion of a new love encounter – particularly if this New Moon is in your 5th or 7th house! The trine to the North Node in Virgo has a somewhat fated quality about whatever is initiated at this time and hence it’s worth paying particular attention to it.

Ultimately the Taurean energies invite us to value ourselves for who we ‘are’ rather than ‘what’ we do so this New Moon encourages us to ‘be in the moment’ and value ourselves, as well as considering what is of value to us and why.

With the Mercury/Uranus conjunction on Friday, this aspect plays an important role particularly as its also trine Saturn in Sagittarius which is square Venus/Chiron in Pisces! With all of these planets between 25’ and 29’ this is a good time to clean out our closets of anything that is holding us back from moving forward in a new way when the planets change sign. With Venus the ruler of this New Moon just separating from Chiron, some of the clearing out may include unfinished past relationship aches that are holding us back from new relationship starts. Despite Mercury being retrograde, communication is likely to be very direct, particularly regarding issues that have been festering for a while. This can be very helpful, albeit a little shocking at times, as honesty is the only way forward.

This New Moon will particularly resonate if your Sun, Moon and/or angles are between 4’ and 7’ Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius and/or Leo.

Some suggestions for this New Moon:

  1. Spend some time outside in nature – particularly near trees and grass.
  2. Do something that is physically self-pampering – have a nice meal, relax in a candlelit bath, buy yourself a new gift, hold hands, kiss…
  3. Spend some time being still – even just 10 mins.
  4. Pay heed to any messages from your body – tiredness, stress, aches and pain…

Some Brief Notes on the New Moon in Capricorn on Dec 28th/29th 2016 by Margaret Gray

‘If not us, then who?
If not now, then when?’
― John E. Lewis

Key Planetary Energies Today:

This New Moon feels particularly important as it comes just a few days before the ending of 2016 – and what a year that has been! Not surprisingly, every single planet and point in the sky is activated today in some way!
The New Moon is conjunct Mercury (1’) as well as exactly sextile Mars in Pisces, which is still within 2’ of Neptune! It also aspects the Nodes via a trine to the North Node in Virgo and a sextile to the South Node in Pisces (3’). Although the conjunction to Pluto has a wide orb of almost 9’, it is still a powerful energy that needs to be added to the mix!
In addition to the New Moon energies, we are also still undergoing the powerful opposition between Jupiter in Libra and Uranus in Aries and Jupiter is also sextile Saturn, quincunx Chiron and trine Venus (4’)!)

So how is all of this likely to affect us?

Individually:
This New Moon draws our attention to the core foundations in our life, particularly to do with our emotional and mental structures. This is an ideal time to re-visit the past year and re-consider how we have chosen to communicate with ourselves and others. How honest have we been in our relationships with our friends, family, co-workers and with our intimate other? What does ‘integrity’ mean to us and how are we living it out in all areas and aspects of our life? What aspects of our inner and outer structures and boundaries may need some re-vising and re-adjusting as we prepare to move into 2017? If our structures and boundaries are too rigid and exclusive we might consider relaxing them a bit and if they have been too lax we might try new ways of strengthening them in a flexible manner. Notice any fears that may arise when we consider making these changes and then consider how our lives might be enhanced if we take the chance!

Don’t be surprised if some old pain may come to the surface to be released and healed to do with the issue of ‘truth’ in our life – either our truth, or a perceived or actual lack of truth from others over the past year or longer. Compassion and empathy for ourselves and others can help to form a bridge between the ideal and the real.

This New Moon will particularly resonate if your Sun, Moon and/or angles are between 6’ and 9’ Capricorn, Cancer, Pisces and/or Virgo. Notice also if you have planets between 19’ and 22’ Aries, Libra, Pisces and/or Virgo as they are awakened at the moment and will be kept busy over the next few months with some exciting changes afoot!

Some suggestions for this New Moon:

1. This is a great time to journal about 2016 – unexpected gifts, lessons learned, new friendships, challenges overcome, magical moments, special connections, losses, creative projects started or completed, love…
2. Taking some time alone to meditate, contemplate…
3. Making a list of what you would like to work on in 2017 within yourself.
4. Listing 4 things in your life that bring you immense joy.

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is: ‘In A Sunlit Home Domesticated Birds Sing Joyously’. One interpretation of this is that something primal within us that has been suppressed can find an audible voice when we shine the light of consciousness on it.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very Happy New Year and many thanks for reading my posts and blogs throughout 2016!

The New Moon in Libra on Oct 1st 2016 by Margaret Gray

‘Love does not dwell on how much one receives in return. If there is ever any balance in love, it is in a contest of who can love who more’. ― Criss Jami

Key Planetary Energies today:

This month starts with the New Moon in Airy Libra conjunct Jupiter (4’ orb), quincunx Neptune (1’ orb) and the Sth Node in Pisces (4’ orb). It’s also sextile Saturn in Sagittarius (3’ orb) and square Mars in Capricorn (6’ orb). Meanwhile, elsewhere in the skies, Mercury in Virgo opposes Chiron in Pisces (2’ orb), trines Pluto in Capricorn (5’ orb) and is quincunx Uranus in Aries (3’ orb). However, the most exact aspect today, aside from the New Moon, is Venus in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces (within 52 seconds!) Meanwhile Saturn in Sagittarius is finally slowly pulling away from its exact square to Neptune (2’ orb) as it gets ready to make an exact square to the Nodes in Virgo and Pisces on October 8th. It’s currently within a 1’ orb! Pluto has already squared them and is moving away (2’ orb).

So how is this likely to affect us?

Individually:

Without a doubt September was probably one of the most challenging months of the year in terms of planetary energies. The combination of the Solar and Lunar Eclipse with the third and last Saturn/Neptune square, left many of us emotionally and physically exhausted!

This New Moon signals the start of a new planetary phase as we seek to re-balance. The place in your chart where the New Moon lands will indicate the area of your life that would most benefit from some re-balancing right now. (See the attached image of the meaning of the 12 Houses of the chart). 12-housesReinforced by the conjunction with Jupiter, who by nature expands everything he comes into contact with, we are called to pay attention to the core Libra themes of Choice and Consequences, Fairness and Unfairness, Compromise and lack of, Justice and Injustice.

Some possible questions to consider:

  • Where are these themes prevalent in your life at the moment?
  • What structural changes can you make to readjust?
  • What needs to be healed within you on Oct 2nd and spoken about on Oct 3rd (when Mercury will make an exact quincunx to Uranus)?

In our Relationships:

This new moon offers us the opportunity to start afresh in relationships with a more balanced and fair perspective. Equality based on honest, simple and direct communication is particularly important at this time. The exact Venus/Neptune aspect is an excellent combination for passion and romance in relationships. rose-411762_640With Mars in Capricorn diligence and integrity are required and are likely to result in a solid foundation going forwards. With Pluto still within orb of the nodes, there may be some remaining old relationship patterns that would benefit from being released. This enables us to let go of ‘needing’ something from others and allows us to move into a place where we can offer who we really are with no expectations in our relationships. From that place we can more easily create loving, joyful and pleasurable relationships based on equality and balance.

Some suggestions for this New Moon:

  1. Clear off old energies in whatever way works for you – Epsom salt baths, Reiki, Crystals, Sound…
  2. Connect with likeminded friends and do something fun together.
  3. Go on a romantic date with your significant other.
  4. Look at something beautiful – art, film…
  5. Spend some time in the fresh air – regardless of the weather!

The New Moon in Leo on Aug 2nd 2016 + Mars into Sagittarius by Margaret Gray MSW D. Psych. Astrology www.astrologypsychological.com

‘And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye’ – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

Childsplay-kite-GETTY-large

The Key Planetary Energies today:

This New Moon in fiery Leo trines Saturn in Sagittarius (1’ orb) and is quincunx Neptune/Sth Node in Pisces (1’ and 2’ orb), as well as forming a slightly out of orb quincunx to Pluto in Capricorn (5’ orb). It also coincides with the return of Mars into Sagittarius following a long stay in Scorpio (since Jan 4th 2016 – aside from an earlier dip into Sagittarius from March 7th – May 28th 2016). Mars will finally return to 16’ Sagittarius 24 – the degree it had reached before going Rx – on September 6th 2016. From that point on, we are likely to feel powerfully propelled forward in all areas of our life where we have felt stuck and possibly stagnant since the start of the year.

So how is this likely to affect us?

 Individually:

The synchronicity of the New Moon in fiery Leo plus Mars moving into Sagittarius is likely to feel quite refreshing and invigorating today. After several months in the underworld, our personal and collective energy has finally surfaced above ground and is aiming for the sky! Taking dynamic action based on our beliefs is now our priority, particularly with the trine from Saturn to the New Moon. Both the New Moon and Venus in Leo remind us that new starts emerge when action comes from our heart centre. PHOTO-Heart-rennovationThis is easier to connect with at the moment as with no Air in the sky (ongoing until the end of the month), logical thinking remains our collective inferior function, allowing the heart to take the lead.

With Mercury in Virgo heading for the North Node, there is an invitation to focus our thinking on how we can each most be of practical service to help move the collective forward. This is also a great time to start a new course of study and to travel, as the urge to expand our mind increases with Mars back in Sagittarius. Until Mars moves out of Sagittarius on September 28th our search for the deepest truth within remains a priority.

In our Relationships:

With the New Moon focus on heart based action, this is potentially an enriching and expansive time for relationships. However, with Leo in the sign of individuation we can only expand in relationships to the degree that we are anchored in our own sense of Self. Hence the key in relationships with this New Moon is likely to be how to find the balance between having a healthy sense of self (versus egotistical narcissism) and how to reach out to loved ones from that joyful heart centred place. 0002With Venus square Mars in the sky this could be a very passionate, playful and joyful New Moon for couples. There may also be quite a few exciting new beginnings with Venus in Leo square Uranus in Aries!

Globally:

Beliefs are likely to be highlighted with this New Moon and with Mars and Saturn almost conjunct in Sagittarius (9’orb), there may at times be a somewhat dogged quality about ‘righteousness’ re beliefs. However, with Mercury in Virgo, careful analysis of our thoughts and words before they are expressed, can go a long way towards soothing extremist tendencies within us all. The quincunx to Neptune and the South Node in Pisces encourages us to connect with compassion and universal connection, whilst continuing to move away from feeling in any way a helpless martyr in the face of the global situation.between-heaven-and-earth-sea-sunset-nature

Some suggestions you may find helpful for this New Moon:

  1. Opening your heart wide
  2. Playing and have fun
  3. Exploring interesting courses of study and places to travel
  4. Dancing, joining a drama group, spending time with friends…

Brief Notes on the New Moon in Taurus on May 6th 2016 by Margaret Gray MSW D. Psych. Astrology

‘They ravaged neither the rivers nor the forest, and if they irrigated, they took as little water as would serve their needs. The land and all that it bore they treated with consideration; not attempting to improve it, they never desecrated it’ ― Willa Cather

Key Planetary Energies today:

The New Moon in Earthy Taurus forms numerous aspects in the sky today. These include being part of Grand Trine in Earth with Jupiter/North Node in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn. It is also conjunct Mercury Rx (5’) and forms a quincunx to Saturn in Sagittarius. However, as there are 5 Retrograde planets right now: Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto – this New Moon is more about Re-doing than Initiating! The last time we had so many planets retrograde at the same time was at the end of April 1984 when Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were all Rx!

So how is this likely to affect us?

Individually:

I often think of the bottom 4 layers of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs pyramid as being a good representation of the gifts Taurus brings to our Birth Chart. MaslowsHierarchyOfNeeds.svgThe bottom two layers remind us of the practical necessities that are required for us to survive on this Earth plane of existence. The next two are the Venusian aspects of Taurus which are tied to our sense of connection with others and our values, including our self-value. The top layer, which could also be interpreted as consciousness/awakening, is the ultimate purpose of all the Zodiac Signs in our chart when expressed at their highest level.

Usually a New Moon in Taurus would invite us to start something new in any one of the four lower levels of the pyramid, depending where we are at in our lives. However, due to the powerful retrograde energies we are experiencing right now, we are more likely to be revising with a view to rebuilding in some of these areas at this time. This offers us the opportunity to clarify any confusion that may have arisen within us between the four layers. Their purpose is to build on one another, rather than equate to one another. Hence, shelter and food are not = love and self-esteem, although having shelter and food makes it easier to connect with both of these qualities within ourselves. Similarly money, which was originally created as a currency of exchange to obtain food and shelter in our society is not = love/belonging and self-esteem. It is merely a tool to provide for the basics and to assist us in learning how to exchange with our fellow humans and the planet. What eventually can potentially help us reach the top of the pyramid is the process itself, rather than the amount we accumulate. This New Moon invites us to stand in our personal power and re-think and revise some of our core belief systems and thought patterns that underlie how we approach the 4 bottom layers of the pyramid. This can facilitate us in creating some new structures that are both useful and of service to ourselves and others.

Paying attention to messages from our body can be particularly helpful at this time as well as getting lots of rest, healthy nourishment, gentle movement and time in nature. The general pace is likely to be slower than it usually is at the time of a New Moon.Student lying in grass reading

You are more likely to resonate with these energies if your Sun, Moon and/or Angles are between 15’ and 22’ Taurus, Scorpio, Capricorn, Virgo and/or Aries.

In our Relationships:

This is an excellent time to reassess our intimacy patterns in relationships – including physical intimacy – without blame or shame! What are these patterns built on – our adult self or our child self? How loving is our ‘internalized marriage’?  What – if any, unhelpful thinking and emotional patterns are we stuck in that prevent us from intimacy? What have we learned from past experiences? What would we do differently now? What do we need to do to heal and move on from them? What do we want now?images (3) This is the time to plant the seeds of what we would like, so that they can blossom when Mars goes Direct at the end of June.

Keeping a journal and/or painting, photography and other art forms are great tools to express ourselves at this time. Sending loved ones thoughtful notes is likely to work better than lengthy verbal dialogue. If we do feel the need to communicate verbally, expressing our truth with simplicity, patience and compassion is likely to be well received at this time with Mercury trining Pluto.

Globally:
The Trine by the New Moon to Jupiter and the North Node in Virgo reiterates the theme of ‘being of service’ as a core value which the planetary energies have been highlighting for many months now. Although some of the extreme events in the world may cause us to doubt this becoming a global reality any time soon, it is worth noticing the ways in which this is in fact happening on a wider scale than the media would have us believe. The New Moon in Taurus also reminds us to take stock of the needs of our planet. Unless we change our thinking and prioritise the needs of the planet, versus the needs of a few to accumulate extremes of wealth, natural disasters on a large scale like the recent fire in Canada, are unfortunately likely to increase. As always we have individual choices which together create collective choices. This New Moon time invites us to focus on what our priorities are for the planet and for each other as a global community, as well as for ourselves as individuals.

I will leave you with this quote by Mahatma Gandhi: ‘Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.’
