The Full Moon in Capricorn on July 19th 2016 by Margaret Gray MSW D. Psych. Astrology

There is an expiry date on blaming your parents for steering you in the wrong direction; the moment you are old enough to take the wheel, responsibility lies with you – J.K. Rowling880546bd72b8ed52f05ea3391e584c05

Key Planetary Energies today:

Today’s Full Moon in Earthy Capricorn is particularly powerful as it forms a square to Uranus in Aries (3’ orb). It is also the release point for a Kite formation in the sky with Apex Sun in Cancer trining Chiron in Pisces (2’ orb) and Mars in Scorpio (2’ orb). These two planets form a sextile to the Full Moon in Capricorn (2’ orb), which is the release point for the Kite. Hence the Full Moon potentially offers momentary grounding of the very emotional Watery Grand Trine energies that have been present in the skies since early July and which come to an end in the next few days. Meanwhile Jupiter is still just within orb (6’) of a conjunction to the North Node in Virgo, opposite Neptune conjunct the South Node in Pisces (2’orb) and Mercury is still walking side by side with Venus in Leo (2’ orb).

So how is this likely to affect us?

This is quite a private, introspective Full Moon that invites us to continue to explore the theme of self-nurturing that started with the New Moon in Cancer on July 4th! Today we are invited to explore where in our body we may be holding unresolved emotional blocks, so that we can take steps to release them and be more loving towards ourselves and others. emotional-energy-centers-of-the-body-final1The concept of loving ourselves has in many ways become the current new age mantra and seems to include everything, from absolute narcissism to total altruism! This Capricorn Moon can help us to come back to basics in terms of self-care. Focusing on the sensations in our body today can help us to ascertain the parts of us that feel lacking in some way and to do some digging into where these gaps in self-loving originate from. With the Moon in the sign of the Father archetype and the Sun lighting up the Mother archetype, our attention is inevitably drawn back once more to nurturing or lack of in our early years. emotionHowever, this earthy Full Moon is about taking steps to heal those lacks rather than merely acknowledge and grieve them. Hence, a useful question to explore is: how crystallized in my body are my emotional defensive structures and what can I do as an adult to help them dissolve? Where do I feel isolated in my life and what illusory ‘enemy’ am I trying to keep at bay out of fear of being hurt? What is the most loving thing I can do for myself today? How able am I to laugh at myself and my foibles? What role does ‘fun’ versus ‘addictions/distractions’ play in my life?

In our Relationships:
The Full Moon in Capricorn which is ruled by Saturn, the god of Time, reminds us that our human existence is limited in time and space. Hence our connection in physical form is time bound and we don’t know how much time any of us have to share with each other on this planet. The Kite formation suggests we ground our feelings towards each other in concrete form, through spending time with loved ones, whilst the possibility exists. download (4)The Mars opposition to Uranus suggests in no uncertain term that the time to do so in now, as we don’t know what tomorrow will bring. With Mercury still close to Venus in Leo, speaking from our heart is the way forward in healing old wounds, resentments and frustrations with significant others, family, friendships… The Sun in Cancer reminds us that unconditional love is the only way forward and can heal pain going back generations both within ourselves and with loved ones.

With the current news highlighting strife in the world on a daily basis, it’s tempting in our grief and frustration to ‘blame’ the planetary energies for what’s occurring. However, as we know well, the planets do not ‘cause’ strife. They represent energies that we can choose to consciously co-create with, or not. Like self-love, the term co-creation has also become one of those new age words that has a lot of meanings. This Full Moon invites us to consider this term carefully as the Sun in Cancer is about creativity. This is also supported by Mercury and Venus in Leo. The opposing Moon in Capricorn is about taking responsibility for our emotional structures and the North Node conjunct Jupiter in Virgo is about being of service in the world through conscious, meaningful, practical, useful and efficient methods. Mars in Scorpio trine Chiron in Pisces invites us to take action based on self-discovered emotional truths.

Hence co-creating with the planets right now, on an individual and collective basis, involves being willing to analyse ourselves on all levels. This includes our thoughts, emotions and actions, so that we can make conscious choices and personal responsibility going forwards, in keeping with the opportunities offered by the current planetary energies, for the wellbeing of the greater collective. This entails fully letting go of the ‘helpless victim’ role we have collectively played for many centuries, indicated by the South Node conjunct Neptune in Pisces. This Full Moon is inviting us to embrace the Capricornian values of ‘self-responsibility’ as well as a sense of shared duty to be of service to the collective.

The core themes of this Full Moon are more likely to reverberate with you if your Sun, Moon and/or Angles are between 24’ and 28’ Capricorn, Cancer, Aries, Scorpio and/or Pisces.

I will leave you this month with this simple reminder from Anne Frank: The final forming of a person’s character lies in their own hands’
