Welcome to Jupiter in Libra! Sept 9th 2016 – Oct 10th 2017

The ingredients of both darkness and light are equally present in all of us,…The madness of this planet is largely a result of the human being’s difficulty in coming to virtuous balance with himself ― Elizabeth Gilbert

This expansive planet’s last visit through this Air Sign was from Sept 26th 2004 – Oct 26th 2005. (Jupiter has an 11.6 year cycle). It’s well worth thinking back to what you experienced in 2005, as this new transit offers an opportunity to revisit and continue some of the unfinished themes that may have arisen in your life at that time.

Core Jupiter in Libra Themes:

Jupiter by nature expands the nature of whatever Zodiac Sign he is in. Hence his visit in Libra is likely to highlight dualities and polarities in our life so that we can bring them into greater balance. images-2The particular arena of our life where this will occur depends on which part of your chart Jupiter is currently travelling through.
Both Jupiter and Libra are natural seekers of justice and equality, hence this will be an excellent time to work on issues that have felt unjust in your life. Jupiter in Libra also reminds us that there are consequences to our choices and this is an ideal time to get a clearer understanding of the consequences of some of the choices we have made in our life. Overall our main learning with this transit will occur through our relationships as we learn new balanced ways to connect, cooperate and compromise.equality-1245578_640

3 Main things to notice in your Birth Chart:

  1. Which House in your Chart is Libra in?
  2. Do you have Planets in Libra or Aries that Jupiter will aspect by conjunction or opposition over the year and on what dates will this happen?
  3. Are any of your Angles in Libra?

In Relationships

Without a doubt our greatest learning in this lifetime is through relationships – initially with our family and later with friends, colleagues, significant others etc. The Libra/Aries axis is the axis of ‘self’ and ‘other’ and as Jupiter travels through Libra we are invited to assess how we relate to everyone on a daily basis. Who are we surrounded by? Why do we surround ourselves with these individuals and communities? What are we seeking to balance or reflect in ourselves? What are we learning through these relationships and/or brief encounters? Are these relationships balanced? Are they fair?14291855_1354312897920000_181995381591821502_n

As Jupiter squares Pluto in Capricorn over the year, (see the dates below), we will be invited to release ways of relating that no longer work for us and that are not based on equality, cooperation and compromise. The Jupiter opposition to Uranus in Aries will challenge us to maintain our individuality, whilst enjoying being in relationship. At its most limited Jupiter can express itself through grandiosity, inflation, egocentrism entitlement and narcissism. If these patterns are present in relationships, they are likely to be highlighted over the coming year, enabling us to make clearer choices.

Jupiter is also about joy and this year invites us to expand the ‘joyful’ aspects of our relationships.

Important dates to keep in mind on a Personal and Collective level when the above themes will be highlighted – (I will post more about these on the actual dates):

  • Nov 21st – Nov 27th: Jupiter will square Pluto in Capricorn (15’)
  • Dec 23rd – Dec 30th: Jupiter will oppose and hence expand Uranus Rx in Aries (20’)
  • Feb 6th – June 9th 2017: Jupiter will be Retrograde in Libra
  • Feb 27th – March 5th 2017: Jupiter Rx will oppose Uranus in Aries (22’)
  • March 25th – april 2nd Jupiter Rx square Pluto in Capricorn (19’)
  • Au 2nd – aug 8th: Jupiter square Pluto Rx in Capricorn (17’)
  • Sept 27th – Oct 1st: Jupiter will oppose Uranus Rx in Aries (last time) (27’)

Although this transit will be felt by all of us, if your Sun, Moon and/or Angles of your chart are in Libra, Aries, Cancer or Capricorn you are more likely to resonate with the main themes of this Transit.

My last quote comes from Gloria Steinem who describes the Libra art of cooperation beautifully: ‘Instead of either/or, I discovered a whole world of and’.

Some Brief Notes on the Annular Lunar Eclipse on September 16th at 24’ Pisces 19 by Margaret Gray

‘We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life’ ― John Lennon

(Many thanks to Clarke Little Photography for this stunning image of a wave!)

Emotions, Emotions, Emotions…

Lunar Eclipses feel like a particularly powerful Full Moon whose effects commence a few weeks before and continue for several months on a subtle emotional level. As this is an Annular rather than a total Lunar Eclipse, we will have some access to the emotions that are surfacing from our deepest unconscious at this time.

Key Planetary Energies today:eclipse

This final Eclipse of 2016 is conjunct Chiron (2’). It is also part of a Tsquare, squaring Apex Mars in Sagittarius (1’ orb) and opposing Jupiter in Libra (7’ orb) as well as Mercury in Virgo (7’ orb). It also forms a quincunx to Venus in Libra (3’ orb). It’s helpful to also keep in mind that Saturn in Sagittarius is still squaring Neptune in Pisces (Rx) – (this is exact within 30 seconds!)  which is conjunct the South Node (2’ orb). In addition, Mars in Sagittarius trines Uranus in Aries (exact within 20 seconds!) and sextiles Venus in Libra (2’ orb).  Saturn also squares the Nodes (2’ orb)

So how is this likely to affect us?

The skies are very busy today! In fact – every planet is in aspect to at least one other planet, with many of the planetary energies squaring or opposing each other! In applying the theory ‘as above, so below’ it stands to reason that emotionally it may feel as if we are we are standing in the middle of Heathrow Airport at the peak of holiday season!! As we try to figure out where our departure gate is, we cannot help being aware of the endless sensory stimulation coming at us from all directions. If someone crashes into us with their 4 suitcases, golf clubs and surfboard (which they may well do with Mars squaring the Moon!), our response will depend on how we are feeling at the time, how injured we are and what the incident triggers off for us. Similarly the degree to which we are affected by the current planetary stimulation in the skies depends on where the planets land on our chart and what they awaken in us.

Although they are not conjunct, this Eclipse Moon, (next to Chiron) is in the same sign as the South Node. Therefore the feelings that are surfacing at this time are likely to be connected to unresolved past life issues that are ready to be understood, healed and released. This may require some analyzing on our part over the next few weeks and months. Writing out and talking through our thoughts and feelings is likely to be helpful and comforting.download

With Mars squaring the Sun and Moon, this full Moon invites us to integrate the polarity of sacrifice versus service through physical and mental movement and action. For anyone with strong Pisces energies in your natal chart, such as the Sun, Moon, Ascendant or Angles in Pisces; learning to live these energies out in new ways that are not based on sacrificing yourself for others, is likely to bring up some old sadness and grief. It can be helpful to remember that at its most expansive Pisces watery energy expresses itself through the imagination and creativity, particularly through music and the arts, as well as through an ongoing awareness of our connection with the spiritual dimension (whatever that means to each of us). At its most limited the Piscean energy can get lost in sacrifice, co-dependency, addictions, perceived abandonment and rejection and a feeling of being a victim of circumstances. Most of us experience our planets somewhere in-between and when an Eclipse shines a light on them, we become more acutely aware through our feelings, of what no longer works for us.

The opposing Sun in Virgo during this Eclipse, offers the potential to take realistic stock of the choices we have made in areas of our life affected by the Eclipse. This entails a willingness to analyse (without judgement), why and how we created our current circumstances. The more we are willing to take compassionate responsibility for our choices, the more we can clear old patterns and make creative and loving choices that are of service to ourselves and others as we move forward in our life. This theme is reinforced by Saturn squaring the Virgo/Pisces Nodes. Some of the emotional pressure we may be feeling at this time is related to Saturn reminding us in no uncertain terms that the core reason we are all on this planet is to be of service to humanity.

Dreams may be particularly powerful right now and worth writing down. This eclipse is likely to potentially feel somewhat chaotic for empaths as the collective field is flooded with unconscious feelings coming to the surface from the depths of everyone’s unconscious. Pisces has no recognition of boundaries and hence it is more challenging to separate who the feelings belong to! Grounding in nature is of paramount importance this weekend. If you have a lot of Pisces in your chart (Sun, Moon or Angles), time alone, journaling, meditating and being creative can help contain the powerful emotions that are swimming around. Tears can also help release some of the sadness and grief that may come to the surface. This is not a good time to use any kind of mind altering substances as their effect is likely to be heightened and could lead to distress and confusion, rather than enjoyment. Remember to put your crystals out for cleansing in the Full Moon!

In our Relationships:

The Venus/Uranus opposition and Quincunx to the Moon/Chiron reminds us that fairness and balance continue to be at the forefront for us all as we endeavour to find new ways to relate that integrate these qualities in an innovative manner. This is an integral part of what I have described as ‘The New Paradigm of Spiritual Relationships’ at several conferences over the past years and in the chapter I wrote on relationships in the book ‘Transpersonal Astrology, Explorations at the Frontier’. This current configuration also raises the issue of ‘twin souls’ and the need to release old painful patterns of sacrificing ourselves so that we can more easily connect with our twin souls in an equal and fair manner. Without doing so we cannot have a relationship that is based on unconditional love as Piscean self-sacrifice leads to resentment which both avoids and destroys the possibility of real intimacy.download-1

The Virgo Sun and Mercury can support us in taking a good look at the choices we have made in our relationships. Were they based on unconditional love for ourselves and our significant other or were they based on fear? What would we do differently in retrospect and going forwards? Are we in a relationship with our ‘twin soul’? If we are, what old feelings from the relationship and from our childhood relationships do we need to work through in order to move forward together? If we are not with our twin soul – it’s worth asking ourselves why we are not with them. Have we not met yet? Are we willing to do the work that being together would entail or would we prefer to wait until another lifetime to do so? With free will at our disposal we can make any choice we wish. Each of them has consequences and this Eclipse may bring some of the emotional consequences of our choices to light so that we can face them and make clearer conscious decisions that are based on empowered love.

The Sabian Symbols

The Sabian Symbol for the Moon for this Eclipse is: ‘The Purging Of The Priesthood’. One interpretation may be that we are releasing feelings to do with old beliefs and teachings that are no longer helpful. As ‘Priesthood’ is a male concept, the beliefs are likely to be connected to our left brain logical approach to thinking that influenced us.

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun is: “Flags At Half Mast”

This suggests that there may be some loss that requires acknowledging and mourning.

The core themes of this Full Moon are more likely to reverberate with you if your Sun, Moon and/or Angles are between 23’ and 25’ Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius, Gemini, Aries and/or Libra.

I will leave you on this Lunar Eclipse with this reminder from Joshua Kai: ‘Even the smallest shift in perspective can bring about the greatest healing.’

Some Brief Notes on the Annular Solar Eclipse at 9’ Virgo 21 on Sept 1st 2016 + Mercury Retrograde in Virgo by Margaret Gray MSW D. Psych. Astrology

‘It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tired into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one destiny, affects all indirectly.’ ― Martin Luther King Jr

Annular Solar Eclipses occurs when the Earth, Moon and Sun are lined up in the heavens, so that from our perspective on Earth, the Moon partially blocks out the light of the Sun, leaving a halo of light to filter through. Countries that are in the direct line of the Eclipse are more likely to resonate with the Eclipse themes. Similarly if your Sun, Moon or Angles are within 3’or 4’ of the Eclipse degree, which in this case is 9’ Virgo 21, you are more likely to resonate with the themes below on an individual level. solar-eclipse-990204_640

This is the last Solar Eclipse of the Year and can be seen at least as a partial eclipse in South Asia, West Australia and much of Africa as well as the Atlantic and Indian Ocean + Antarctica. Further information is available here: http://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/solar/2016-september-1 path-1920

The last Eclipse of this year will be an Annular Lunar Eclipse at 24’ Pisces 20 on September 16th

Solar Eclipses symbolically represent the brief moment of darkness that comes just before an important aspect of ourselves comes to light. In that instant our unconscious lunar emotions surface, obscuring our conscious solar light, thereby leaving us in darkness. All we can do is trust that something as yet unknown is emerging into light and consciousness, ready to be birthed in the weeks and months ahead. As this is an Annular rather than a total Eclipse, we are likely to have some conscious awareness of what is surfacing. The placement of the Eclipse in our Birth Chart by Sign, House and Aspect offers us some helpful information as to what this is[i]wallpaper-1492818_640

Over the centuries the dimming of the light of the Sun has been viewed with some trepidation in many parts of the world. On a primal instinctual level, our survival feels understandably threatened when the light of the Sun is obscured. Hence, although Solar Eclipses always occur at the time of a New Moon, which is all about birth, the Eclipse demands that we experience almost total darkness, before the birth can take place.

Key Planetary Aspects:

In terms of key aspects, this Eclipse is conjunct the North Node in Virgo (3’ orb) and trine Pluto in Capricorn (5’ orb). It is also part of the third leg of a Tsquare involving the Saturn/Neptune square in the sky, which is within ’35 of being exact! The Eclipse and North Node in Virgo are square Saturn/Mars in Sagittarius and opposite Neptune/South Node in Pisces. (The third exact Saturn/Neptune square will be on September 10th! Feel free to read my blog https://astrologypsychological.com/2015/11/saturn-square-neptune-nov-2015-september-2016/solareclipse

In addition, the Eclipse takes place within 24 hours of Mercury going stationary Retrograde in Virgo and forming an exact conjunction with Jupiter in Virgo! Venus in Libra is within 3’ of the conjunction and there is also an opposition to Chiron in Pisces (5’ orb). Mercury will go direct again on September 21st. However, it will not reach the same degree it went Retrograde at (29’ Virgo 9) until October 24th!

How is this likely to affect us?

Virgo is the most analytical of the Earth signs, bringing to the fore the Mercurial side of us that likes to mentally dissect and reconstruct as efficiently and effectively as possible! This Eclipse invites us to do so on all levels, including the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. Virgo seeks to help us understand the finer details of our inner workings so that we can continue to learn and improve as we go through life. This theme is currently reinforced by Mercury Retrograde conjunct Jupiter in Virgo!
Playing an integral role in the Saturn/Neptune square, this Eclipse invites us to integrate our analytical brain with our heart, in a search for a ‘truth’ that is all encompassing, rather than limiting.

On an individual level, a helpful starting point is to form effective bridges between the different parts of ourselves, including our mind, emotions, body and spirit. In doing so we can assess what works and what doesn’t on all these levels. The key is going to be how to do so with compassion, rather than criticism or judgement. For example, we could explore what the link is between what we eat and how we feel emotionally. Or – if and how we are we balancing work with relaxation. Is our mind stimulated in ways that feel enjoyable? What messages do we tell ourselves on a daily basis?

Eclipses repeat themselves approx. every 19 years and the previous Solar Eclipse at this same degree was in September 1997 at 9’ Virgo 24. It may be helpful to revisit this time to see if any significant themes came to light which may resurface to be worked through in a new way now.

According to Dr. Bernadette Brady this Eclipse belongs to Saros Series 19 North. This is her description of the core theme:
“This Saros Series is about realism, a coming down to earth. The individual will become aware of an old situation and see it for what it is rather than what he or she thought it was. This can be a constructive time for tackling the truth.”[ii] awakening-675330_640

The most recent previous Eclipses in this series were in July 1944, July 1962 and Aug 1980. It may be interesting to revisit these times in your life or to explore what was going on in your family at these times if you were not born yet, as it may shed some light on current themes that may be awakened by this Eclipse.

In our Relationships:

Relationships are likely to come under the microscope with this Eclipse, as we dissect our thoughts and feelings in an attempt to understand ourselves and our relationships better. Mercury Retrograde offers us the opportunity to revise our communication skills, particularly with our significant other. Hence, this is an optimal time to review similarities in how we tend to communicate, with patterns of communication or lack of, within our family of origin. Were they effective in our growing up years? Are they effective and constructive now? Are they connecting or divisive? How big a part does judgement, including self judgement play? What changes would be most helpful? Beliefs about what relationships ‘should be like’ are also likely to surface at this time so that we can review them with a view to releasing any over idealistic and unrealistic expectations that may hinder us from intimacy. dancing-1176550_640

The ongoing opposition between the Virgo North Node and the Pisces South Node, which is highlighted by this Eclipse, reminds us that ultimately what we are seeking at this time is the integration of individuality/separateness (Virgo) and togetherness/merging (Neptune). Total separateness can lead to isolation and loneliness and unboundaried merging can lead to loss of self and engulfment. The apex Mars/Saturn conjunction in Sagittarius in the Tsquare suggests that the integration of these two extremes may be possible at this time in our relationships through exploring and expanding beyond our current fixed beliefs. This is part of the new paradigm of spiritual relationships. [iii]

The Sabian Symbol for this Eclipse is: ‘Two Heads looking out and beyond the shadows’. This suggests the possibility that relationships that have felt submerged for some time are beginning to come to the surface and seeing potential light and hope ahead. This is also reinforced by Venus in the early degrees of Libra.

Some tools that may help at this time:

  1. Time in nature to ground the powerful energies of the Eclipse
  2. Dancing and music to express and integrate emotions that are coming to the surface
  3. Journaling as a tool to review thoughts and feelings
  4. Yoga and other forms of holistic exercise to help bridge all aspects of ourselves
  5. Lists and mind maps to help analyze our thoughts and feelings
  6. Physical detoxing with the advice and support of a health practitioner

If your Sun, Moon and/or angles are between 8’ and 16’ Virgo, Pisces, Sagittarius, Gemini and/or Capricorn or between 23’ and 29’ Virgo and/or Pisces you are more likely to resonate with the above themes.

This classic quote from Louise Hay may be helpful at this time: ‘Remember, you have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.’ ― Louise L. Hay

The New Moon in Leo on Aug 2nd 2016 + Mars into Sagittarius by Margaret Gray MSW D. Psych. Astrology www.astrologypsychological.com

‘And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye’ – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

The Key Planetary Energies today:

This New Moon in fiery Leo trines Saturn in Sagittarius (1’ orb) and is quincunx Neptune/Sth Node in Pisces (1’ and 2’ orb), as well as forming a slightly out of orb quincunx to Pluto in Capricorn (5’ orb). It also coincides with the return of Mars into Sagittarius following a long stay in Scorpio (since Jan 4th 2016 – aside from an earlier dip into Sagittarius from March 7th – May 28th 2016). Mars will finally return to 16’ Sagittarius 24 – the degree it had reached before going Rx – on September 6th 2016. From that point on, we are likely to feel powerfully propelled forward in all areas of our life where we have felt stuck and possibly stagnant since the start of the year.

So how is this likely to affect us?

The synchronicity of the New Moon in fiery Leo plus Mars moving into Sagittarius is likely to feel quite refreshing and invigorating today. After several months in the underworld, our personal and collective energy has finally surfaced above ground and is aiming for the sky! Taking dynamic action based on our beliefs is now our priority, particularly with the trine from Saturn to the New Moon. Both the New Moon and Venus in Leo remind us that new starts emerge when action comes from our heart centre. PHOTO-Heart-rennovationThis is easier to connect with at the moment as with no Air in the sky (ongoing until the end of the month), logical thinking remains our collective inferior function, allowing the heart to take the lead.

With Mercury in Virgo heading for the North Node, there is an invitation to focus our thinking on how we can each most be of practical service to help move the collective forward. This is also a great time to start a new course of study and to travel, as the urge to expand our mind increases with Mars back in Sagittarius. Until Mars moves out of Sagittarius on September 28th our search for the deepest truth within remains a priority.

In our Relationships:

With the New Moon focus on heart based action, this is potentially an enriching and expansive time for relationships. However, with Leo in the sign of individuation we can only expand in relationships to the degree that we are anchored in our own sense of Self. Hence the key in relationships with this New Moon is likely to be how to find the balance between having a healthy sense of self (versus egotistical narcissism) and how to reach out to loved ones from that joyful heart centred place. 0002With Venus square Mars in the sky this could be a very passionate, playful and joyful New Moon for couples. There may also be quite a few exciting new beginnings with Venus in Leo square Uranus in Aries!

Beliefs are likely to be highlighted with this New Moon and with Mars and Saturn almost conjunct in Sagittarius (9’orb), there may at times be a somewhat dogged quality about ‘righteousness’ re beliefs. However, with Mercury in Virgo, careful analysis of our thoughts and words before they are expressed, can go a long way towards soothing extremist tendencies within us all. The quincunx to Neptune and the South Node in Pisces encourages us to connect with compassion and universal connection, whilst continuing to move away from feeling in any way a helpless martyr in the face of the global situation.between-heaven-and-earth-sea-sunset-nature

Some suggestions you may find helpful for this New Moon:

  1. Opening your heart wide
  2. Playing and have fun
  3. Exploring interesting courses of study and places to travel
  4. Dancing, joining a drama group, spending time with friends…

Summer Solstice and the Full Moon in Sagittarius on June 20th 2016 by Margaret Gray

‘Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise’ – Maya Angelou[i]

The Key Planetary Energies today:

This is the second of two Full Moons in Sagittarius – the first one was in May 2016. The last one was on June 22nd 1967 at 0’ Capricorn 06. The next one won’t be until June 21st, 2062. Hence for some this may well be the only experience of Summer Solstice combined with a Full Moon!

This Full Moon is opposite Venus in Cancer, trine Uranus in Aries (5’) and square Chiron in Pisces (4’) Meanwhile the tight Mutable Grand Cross continues in the sky with Mercury in Gemini square Jupiter exactly conjunct the North Node in Virgo square Neptune conjunct South Node in Pisces and exactly opposite Saturn in Sagittarius!fullmoonsag

The Full Moon is at 11.03 Irish/UK time and the Summer Solstice is at 23.34 Irish/UK time on the 20th/21st By this time the Sun will have moved into 0’ Cancer 02 and the Moon will be at 6’ Capricorn 07.solstic

So how is this likely to affect us?

This full moon at the Anaretic 29th degree has an urgency about it, due to its placement. Hence we are invited to integrate and complete something important, before we embrace the new nurturing and fertile energy of the Solstice. Key areas that are illuminated which may seek integration and completion are related to our thoughts and beliefs. It’s well worth exploring the emotional patterns that lie at the core of our beliefs and how they impact our communication within ourself and with others. How is this linked to our self-value? The trine to Uranus is urging us to release old emotional patterns and the square to Chiron reminds us that this release will help to bring about understanding and healing both for ourselves and those around us.

Later in the day Solstice, which is one of the four cardinal turning points in the solar calendar, welcomes a new season – Summer for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter in the Southern Hemisphere. The word Solstice derives from the Latin word: Solstitium which is made up of ‘Sol’ – the Sun & the past participle of ‘sistere’ which means ‘to stand still’. Hence our focus today is on the Solar Archetype. This includes: the principle of self and individuation, illumination within and outside of ourselves, the father archetype within, action, vocation, expansion, our identity, shining our truth, our roots, inner strength…solstice

Throughout the centuries Sun gods were worshipped across the globe throughout almost every culture. With patriarchy, many of them were identified as male. However, in Irish mythology, Áine who was the daughter of Eogabail of the Tuatha Dé Danann, “was originally worshipped as a Sun Goddess. She was also seen as a Moon Goddess, a Goddess of Love, a Fertility Goddess, a Healing Goddess, and a Sovereignty Goddess. Áine is also known as a Faery Queen. Her name means “brightness, glow, joy, radiance; splendour, glory, fame” and she is associated with the abundance of summer. Áine walked among Her people, offering aide where needed. She was invoked for “abundance, prosperity, punishing love crimes, keeping magical vows, revealing faeries, bearing magical children, and leaving unsuitable mate. South West is her direction, and Air is her element. The red mare, rabbit, and swan are her sacred animals.” [ii]airmid

Hence today we are invited to invoke Áine, to assist us in whatever area of our life we would like the Sun to shine brightly and bring abundance and new joyful beginnings. Notice in particular which area of your chart the Sun at 0’ Cancer and the Moon at 6’ Capricorn land in. Time in nature is likely to be particularly beneficial today.

In our Relationships:
The June Full Moon is known as the ‘Honey Moon” – hence the term ‘honeymoon’ for new ‘in love’ couples and why June is one of the most popular months to get married! For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere this time of year is connected to abundance and light as we experience the most hours of sunlight in the year. “As the goddess of love, Áine was invoked for love spells and fertility with the Sun and Moon being her planets. She was known for teaching her human children about love” [iii]– (both human and spiritual love). Aine, with long red hair held by a headband of fallen stars, was always seen wearing yellow, attire fitting for a Goddess associated with the sun and the moon.”

Abundance in the arena of love is more likely if we release old concepts of what ‘love’ is supposed to be and embrace a more expansive concept based on ‘unconditionality’ as well as on ‘service’. With Mercury in Gemini opposing Saturn, writing may feel easier than speaking to our loved ones today. As the Full Moon wanes and the Solstice takes over, the light of the Sun will join Venus in Cancer, softening the urgency of the 29’ and inviting compassion and tenderness for ourselves and others. This is an ideal time to consider making changes and new starts in all relationships but particularly within families, especially if boundaries have become a little blurred.

Full Moons offer the potential to let go of something that is no longer serving us well. This is particularly emphasised with the Grand Cross today, as well as the Full Moon at 29’! Sadly the key planetary energies in the Grand Cross seem to have been expressed at their most limited over the past week in many parts of the world. Mental and emotional chaos and confusion (Neptune/Sth node in Pisces) based on a limited sense of meaning (opposite Jupiter/North Node in Virgo) versus a sense of meaning and service fuelled by unconditional love and recognition of our sameness. This erupted in a violent attempt to annihilate the shadow within oneself and others, (Mars in Scorpio quincunx Uranus in Aries as well as the trine from Jupiter/Nth Node to Pluto in Capricorn), rather than self-empowered actions leading to a new way of being.maxresdefault

Solstice offers us a new turning point as a collective – the question for each of us is: how are we going to move forward? Are we willing to do the work required by the Jupiter/North Node in Virgo trine Pluto in Capricorn – learn, consciously analyse, evaluate, be of service, reach out, let go of addictions, make changes to create new structures in ourselves and in society…? With Mars Rx in Scorpio, quincunx Uranus in Aries – are we willing to evaluate ourselves and our past actions in a conscious manner so that we can move forward in a new way? The potential is there but as the Dalai Lama recently pointed out: ‘It requires action on our part’.

The Mutable Cross and the Planetary energies for June 1st – 7th 2016 by Margaret Gray

Change is all around us! The Mutable Grand Cross reminds us that nothing is ever set in stone!

The Mutable Grand Cross that started on May 28th and fades away in mid-June, reaches a peak over the next few days, due to the current placement of the Sun. It will be joined by the New Moon in Gemini on June 4th/5th! (More on the New Moon later this week)

Key Astrological Aspects:

The Mutable Grand Cross is made up of Saturn Rx in Sagittarius, square Neptune/ South Node in Pisces opposite Sun/Venus in Gemini square Jupiter/North Node in Virgo. All of these planets are dancing between 11’ and 17’. The movement of the Sun over the next few days is a key factor. Landing on the exact degree as some of the major planets in the Grand Cross it will shine a spotlight on their energy.

June 1st and 2nd: Sun in Gemini exactly square Neptune in Pisces

June 3rd: Sun in Gemini exactly opposite Saturn in Sagittarius

June 2th/5th: New Moon conjunct Venus, exactly square Jupiter in Virgo

June 6th: (Sun/Venus exactly quincunx Pluto in Capricorn – not part of the Grand Cross but very important)

June 7th: Sun/Venus in Gemini exactly square the Nodes in Virgo/Pisces

Meanwhile the very different planetary energy of the Grand Trine in Earth continues with Pluto in Capricorn, Jupiter/North Node in Virgo and Mercury in Taurus!

What does this mean for us:

With so many planets squaring and opposing each other in Mutable signs, the key energy over the next few days is Change.time-for-a-change-897441_960_720 Hence the invitation for each of us is flexibility and openness to whatever changes we are experiencing keeping in mind that  external changes are often a mirror to internal changes.

One of the gifts of Mutable Crosses is that we are nudged out of any potential rut we may have fallen into. The main challenge can be how to stay grounded and centered with so much movement swirling around us and inside us. This is one of the potential benefits of the Grand Trine in Earth right now as it can offer some ease and grounding!LEO256

As the Sun forms an exact aspect to each planet as outlined above, it will highlight these particular energies in the Grand Cross. Hence on June 1st and 2nd it’s worth noticing our dreams. This is also a particularly good time to release old grief. On June 3rd the focus is likely to be on our belief systems – what needs to change? On June 6th the Sun will activate core structures in our life that we no longer feel comfortable with. Do we really want to continue this way? On June 7th the Sun brings our attention to our participation in the greater collective – what part do we wish to play? (More on the New Moon in a few days!)

In our Relationships:

This is a great time to breathe new life into relationships through initiating refreshing changes. June 1st and 2nd are an ideal time to release old dreams and fantasies about our relationships that may no longer be helpful to hold onto. This creates space for new and more realistic dreams. June 3rd is a great time to re-examine core belief systems to do with relationships. On the 6th we might find it helpful to reconsider how we are living out the core structures that form the bedrock of your relationships: love, commitment, loyalty, trust, integrity, communication…The grand trine in Earth can facilitate this process!

With all the planetary energies in the four corners of the square demanding change within a short space of time, it may be helpful to remember that the key anchor in all our relationships is Love.

The more grounded and centered we maintain ourselves, the easier it is to deal with the somewhat erratic current events and changes around the world. Focusing on the North Node conjunct Jupiter in Virgo can help redirect us. Basically the message of this North Node is to carefully consider all our thoughts and actions – are they of help and service to humanity or are they adding to the global suffering and chaos? If we remain in the naivety and regressive unconsciousness of the South Node, we are hindering rather than helping. This is not a time to hide our head in the sand, nor is it helpful to get overwhelmed by the collective grief. When in doubt it is helpful to focus on what is practical and useful, as well as compassionate.

You are likely to resonate more with these energies if your Sun, Moon and/or angles are between 10’ and 18’ of the Mutable signs: Virgo, Pisces, Sagittarius and/or Gemini.

If your Sun, Moon and/or angles are between 13’ and 20’ of Taurus, Capricorn and/or Virgo you may be relied on to help anchor the rapidly changeable energies on the planet over the next few days.

Mars Retrograde, The Earth Grand Trine and the Mutable Grand Cross in May 2016 by Margaret Gray

Are you feeling a bit scattered by any chance? This would not be surprising in view of the numerous planetary configurations that are pulling and pushing in all directions!

Planetary Configurations today May 27th 2016:

  1. Mars has retrograded back into Scorpio, placing him at 29’ which is considered a ‘critical degree’. He remains in Scorpio until Aug 3rd!
  2. The Earth Grand Trine including Mercury in Taurus, Jupiter/North Node in Virgo and Neptune/South Node in Pisces that started at the end of April, continues in the sky until June 7th!
  3. To add to the mix there is also a Mutable Grand Cross with Sun/Venus in Gemini, Neptune in Pisces, Saturn in Sagittarius and Jupiter in Virgo. This will peak on June 2nd and 3rd – more updates on this over the next week. (Worth noting that last Thursday the Jupiter square Saturn part of this Grand Cross was exact. We have been feeling this square for a few months now as it has been in orb since March 2016 and will continue until the end of June).

How might this impact each of us?

The focus remains on carefully analyzing the core structures in our life and planting the seeds to create new ones. This is particularly relevant if you have planets and/or angles between 11’ and 20’ Taurus, Virgo and/or Capricorn.

Meanwhile our beliefs and values are being challenged as we are pulled and pushed by the need to increasingly move into ‘self-determination’ versus ‘being a victim of fate and circumstance’. This is particularly relevant if you have planets and/or angles between 6’ and 14’ Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo and/or Pisces.

In addition, we are being nudged, with the help of Mars in Scorpio, into revisiting and releasing old emotions that may have been hindering us from moving forward. This is a final letting go for many, particularly if you have planets between 22’ and 29’ Scorpio, Taurus, Leo and/or Aquarius.

In our Relationships:

With so many planetary energies in the mix, it may feel challenging to fully connect with significant others at this time. However, with Mars travelling back through Scorpio there is a window of opportunity to revisit the meaning of desire, passion and intimacy for each of us and to release old issues that may be a hindrance in this area of life. Until the Moon enters Pisces tomorrow, we may feel somewhat emotionally detached from loved ones. This will change over the next few days as our desire for emotional closeness increases.

Mutable Grand Cross energies by their nature inspire flexible movement. However, the movement tends to be from one corner of the square to the next. Hence, there is little time to rest and ground the energies. As soon as we think that we have a handle on an aspect of the global situation, it is likely to change. The Grand Trine in Earth on the other hand is somewhat fixed, leading to some potential stubbornness in the face of the evolutionary changes that need to occur. This is likely to ease when Mercury moves into Gemini on June 13th!

The Full Moon in Sagittarius on May 21st 2016 by Margaret Gray

‘Why is patience so important?
Because it makes us pay attention’ ―
Paulo Coelho

Key Planetary Energies today:

This first of two Full Moons in Sagittarius (the next one is in June), is conjunct Retrograde Mars, creating an exact Sun/Mars opposition! It is also Trine Chiron in Pisces (7’). Meanwhile the Sun is conjunct Venus in Taurus (5’orb). The North Node in Virgo is conjunct Jupiter (5’) and the opposing South Node in Pisces is conjunct both Neptune (7’) and Chiron (6’). These planets are part of the Kite formation in the sky at the moment, with a Grand Trine in Earth, including the North Node/Jupiter, Pluto and Mercury – all within 5’ of each other with South Node/Neptune/Chiron in Water as the release point for the Kite. The Nodes and planets conjunct them, are also part of a Keep in mind also that Mercury goes stationary direct tomorrow, although Mars remains Retrograde for another month!

So how is this likely to affect us?

New Moons usually come with a sense of ease as the Sun and Moon sit side by side, sharing the energy of the same Zodiac Sign. However, with a Full Moon, the Sun and Moon are in opposite signs of the Zodiac. This can create a sense of unease as we seek ways to integrate the opposing energies, as well as the planets they are each aspecting.

At its core this Full Moon invites us to revisit the core beliefs, thoughts and values that drive us to take action in our daily life. Are they still helpful to us? Which ones are we ready to release?tumblr_static_tumblr_static_acbnacn55kw04ocgo4ccgck80_640

With Mercury within a day of turning stationary Direct in Taurus, engaging our right brain creative thinking function is likely to be more successful than attempting to make decisions based on our logical left brain. With Mars still Retrograde until June 29th we may be be feeling a build-up of frustration as our desired actions may feel hampered by delays and unexpected re-routes! Patience is likely to be a rather scarce commodity at the moment so it is well worth engaging in whatever personal reflective practices we find most conducive to dealing with frustration and impatience! This can include: exercise, yoga, meditation, singing, dancing, laughing…

The Kite formation highlights that to be of service and effect transformation in the structures of our individual lives and in the greater collective we need to connect with our emotions and to clear out old pain. This is an ideal time to spend some time journaling about our feelings so that we can release old buried wounds and emotions.

You are more likely to resonate more powerfully with these energies if your Sun, Moon and/or Angles are between 0’ and 3’ Sagittarius and Gemini and/or between 10’ and 15’ Sagittarius, Pisces and/or Virgo, or 14’ and 27’ Virgo, Capricorn, Taurus and/or Pisces.

In our Relationships:

This is an ideal time to reconsider the beliefs and values that our relationship dynamics are based on. Where do these beliefs originate from? Our family, culture, religion, education…? Do they fully resonate with what we value and want in our relationships? Which direction are they taking us? Is this really where we want to go? Where is our heart in all of this?

During a Full Moon there can be a higher risk of projecting either side of the Full Moon onto a significant other or friend, colleague, family member etc. Notice if they remind you of either of your parents? This is a clear indication that they have faded as individuals in your eyes and become a mere projection of an internalized parental archetype. Projection-for-Vibrant-Jung-ThingAs we all know, the stronger and more unconscious the projection, the easier it is for the other person to unconsciously take on the projection, often leading to a relationship spiralling into an unnecessary challenging situation. The key is for the person who initiated the projection to become conscious of when it is happening and to deal with the original parental issues so as not to unwillingly cause distress and damage to the relationship. The more we each become conscious of our inner childhood and parental issues, the less likely we are to act them out unconsciously with our loved ones.

The Saturn Rx apex of the Tsquare to the Nodes indicates that we have reached an important point as a collective where we are invited to manifest a future that integrates spirituality and oneness with a sense of meaning based on being of practical help. Whether we choose to do so depends on our choices as we all have free will!

Brief Notes on the New Moon in Taurus on May 6th 2016 by Margaret Gray MSW D. Psych. Astrology

‘They ravaged neither the rivers nor the forest, and if they irrigated, they took as little water as would serve their needs. The land and all that it bore they treated with consideration; not attempting to improve it, they never desecrated it’ ― Willa Cather

Key Planetary Energies today:

The New Moon in Earthy Taurus forms numerous aspects in the sky today. These include being part of Grand Trine in Earth with Jupiter/North Node in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn. It is also conjunct Mercury Rx (5’) and forms a quincunx to Saturn in Sagittarius. However, as there are 5 Retrograde planets right now: Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto – this New Moon is more about Re-doing than Initiating! The last time we had so many planets retrograde at the same time was at the end of April 1984 when Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were all Rx!

So how is this likely to affect us?

I often think of the bottom 4 layers of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs pyramid as being a good representation of the gifts Taurus brings to our Birth Chart. MaslowsHierarchyOfNeeds.svgThe bottom two layers remind us of the practical necessities that are required for us to survive on this Earth plane of existence. The next two are the Venusian aspects of Taurus which are tied to our sense of connection with others and our values, including our self-value. The top layer, which could also be interpreted as consciousness/awakening, is the ultimate purpose of all the Zodiac Signs in our chart when expressed at their highest level.

Usually a New Moon in Taurus would invite us to start something new in any one of the four lower levels of the pyramid, depending where we are at in our lives. However, due to the powerful retrograde energies we are experiencing right now, we are more likely to be revising with a view to rebuilding in some of these areas at this time. This offers us the opportunity to clarify any confusion that may have arisen within us between the four layers. Their purpose is to build on one another, rather than equate to one another. Hence, shelter and food are not = love and self-esteem, although having shelter and food makes it easier to connect with both of these qualities within ourselves. Similarly money, which was originally created as a currency of exchange to obtain food and shelter in our society is not = love/belonging and self-esteem. It is merely a tool to provide for the basics and to assist us in learning how to exchange with our fellow humans and the planet. What eventually can potentially help us reach the top of the pyramid is the process itself, rather than the amount we accumulate. This New Moon invites us to stand in our personal power and re-think and revise some of our core belief systems and thought patterns that underlie how we approach the 4 bottom layers of the pyramid. This can facilitate us in creating some new structures that are both useful and of service to ourselves and others.

Paying attention to messages from our body can be particularly helpful at this time as well as getting lots of rest, healthy nourishment, gentle movement and time in nature. The general pace is likely to be slower than it usually is at the time of a New Moon.Student lying in grass reading

You are more likely to resonate with these energies if your Sun, Moon and/or Angles are between 15’ and 22’ Taurus, Scorpio, Capricorn, Virgo and/or Aries.

In our Relationships:

This is an excellent time to reassess our intimacy patterns in relationships – including physical intimacy – without blame or shame! What are these patterns built on – our adult self or our child self? How loving is our ‘internalized marriage’?  What – if any, unhelpful thinking and emotional patterns are we stuck in that prevent us from intimacy? What have we learned from past experiences? What would we do differently now? What do we need to do to heal and move on from them? What do we want now?images (3) This is the time to plant the seeds of what we would like, so that they can blossom when Mars goes Direct at the end of June.

Keeping a journal and/or painting, photography and other art forms are great tools to express ourselves at this time. Sending loved ones thoughtful notes is likely to work better than lengthy verbal dialogue. If we do feel the need to communicate verbally, expressing our truth with simplicity, patience and compassion is likely to be well received at this time with Mercury trining Pluto.

The Trine by the New Moon to Jupiter and the North Node in Virgo reiterates the theme of ‘being of service’ as a core value which the planetary energies have been highlighting for many months now. Although some of the extreme events in the world may cause us to doubt this becoming a global reality any time soon, it is worth noticing the ways in which this is in fact happening on a wider scale than the media would have us believe. The New Moon in Taurus also reminds us to take stock of the needs of our planet. Unless we change our thinking and prioritise the needs of the planet, versus the needs of a few to accumulate extremes of wealth, natural disasters on a large scale like the recent fire in Canada, are unfortunately likely to increase. As always we have individual choices which together create collective choices. This New Moon time invites us to focus on what our priorities are for the planet and for each other as a global community, as well as for ourselves as individuals.

I will leave you with this quote by Mahatma Gandhi: ‘Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.’

2016 – Navigating the Planetary Energies in the Year Ahead with Margaret Gray MSW D. Psych. Astrology

You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do

Overall Theme for 2016: Creating Core Structures based on Meaningful Service

January – April:

As befits the end of one year and the start of the new one, January offers us a great opportunity to do some major clearing up of any residues from the past few years. What we are dealing with goes back to issues we were each faced with, within ourselves and on a collective basis in June 2012 when Uranus and Pluto first squared each other in the sky.[i] In fact the deeper origins of all this stem back to when these two major planets sat next to each other in 1965. It is therefore well worthwhile taking a look at what was going on for you in 1965, particularly with Mercury retrograde in Capricorn until January 25,th lending itself to some thoughtful research! If you weren’t born yet in ‘65, you can explore what was going on with your parent/s, family, community, home town etc. at this time. These energies continue until mid 2017 when Uranus and Pluto finally go their separate ways! In the meantime, this is an opportunity to review and regenerate whatever structures in your life are not working authentically on a soul level including your home, health, relationships, family, work etc. [ii] Total honesty and accountability, (not blame!), are warranted at this time, so that we all can step forward into the Spring, with far less unnecessary emotional baggage weighing us down.download (20)

March brings us the first Eclipse season of the year with a total Solar Eclipse in Pisces on March 9th. With 5 planets, plus the south node in the watery, emotional, imaginative sign of Pisces during March, the energies invite us to dissolve and release old patterns related with being ‘a victim’ so that we can embrace practical ways of being ‘of service’. Interestingly this Eclipse falls exactly on Enda Kenny’s North Node. The North Node in all our Birth Charts describes the key soul theme we are here to learn in this lifetime. The South Node at the opposite end, describes the skills and resources we bring with us from a previous lifetime. The Eclipse falling on this point for Enda, is a strong reminder to him to follow his Pisces North Node message of letting go and trusting, rather than trying to work things out in a logical analytical way for fear that chaos will descend! It is not surprising that his natal Pluto – the planet related to power – is also aspected in his chart by the Eclipse, as this is the last day the Dáil must be dissolved in line with coming elections that have to take place no later than April 8th! This is clearly going to be a significant time for the Taoiseach![iii]

May – August

May also starts with Mercury Retrograde – this time in Taurus, inviting us to focus on our ‘values’, particularly our self-value. On June 17th Saturn the god of time and manifestation, squares Neptune the god of the oceans, for the second time. The energies of these two planetary deities have been dominating the skies since their first exact square on November 26th 2015 and will continue to do so until their last encounter in September. For more information on the full meaning of this transit and how to relate it to your life, feel free to read the free blog on my website at https://astrologypsychological.com/blog-2/

The invitation of these two planets is for us to manifest Heaven on Earth by grounding the reality of our oneness, on this planet of matter. At its most limited this configuration can manifest as divisiveness, between rigid intransigent belief systems. At its most expansive, it can manifest as heart centred actions on an individual and collective basis. The choice is always ours. The seeding moment for these energies was in 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down.helping-hands

From March until the end of June 2016, these energies are further expanded by Jupiter in Virgo joining the configuration and reminding us of the importance of being of service. June 4th and 5th are particularly important dates as the light of the Sun and Venus in Gemini, link up with Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune. Forming a Grand Cross configuration in the sky, our attention is drawn to the creative power of our thoughts and how we communicate. From mid-April until December 2016, we will get a break from the harshness and somewhat erratic quality of the Uranus Pluto square.

On August 30th Mercury goes Retrograde once more, in analytical Virgo as we assess the past few months.

September – December

September 1st brings the second Eclipse Season, starting with an Annular Solar Eclipse in Virgo, followed on the 16th by an annular Lunar Eclipse in Pisces – the latter will be visible in Ireland. Hence we are likely to resonate with it as a country.

On September 10th Saturn squares Neptune for the 3rd and last time. This last transit also involves the Sun, Mercury, Pluto, Mars Venus, Neptune and the North Node! Our invitation is to be of service to humanity and to the planet in our thoughts, speech and actions. Note that if you have planets and/or angles between 6’ and 14’ Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius and/or Gemini,  you will particularly resonate with this transit. The theme of ‘service’ continues to be emphasized in October when Saturn squares the Nodes, putting increasing pressure on us to create solid foundations for structures on the planet that are based on a heart and mind connection.download (7)

Some questions to explore in 2016:

  1. What issues are coming to the surface from your current life, your childhood and possibly past lives that are demanding your attention? How might you heal and integrate these issues so that you can free any stuck energies within you and move forward in your life?
  2. What unfulfilled dreams are surfacing and what initial foundations might you construct to fulfill them?
  3. Where in your life and in what way are you of service to yourself, the rest of humanity and the planet?
  4. What beliefs do you hold that you are ready to change?

Some tools that may be useful:

  1. Keeping a dream journal, particularly during the weeks before, during and after the exact Saturn Square Neptune Transit – June 17th and September 10th 2016
  2. Keeping grounded at all times – walking, gardening, dancing…
  3. Connecting with your soul family/tribe to feels supported in creating new structures in the world
  4. Being creative in whatever way brings you joy – writing, painting, knitting, drawing…
  5. Laughing!
 Mercury Retrograde in 2016:

This year all the retrogrades are predominantly in Earth signs. This can cause some delays around the manifestation of thoughts and decisions which can be particularly frustrating if  Mercury in your Birth Chart is in Air or Fire! Patience and attention to detail are very helpful at this time! It’s best to wait until a week after the retrograde periods are over before signing any important documents!

January 5th 2016 (Aquarius) – January 24th 2016 (Capricorn) – a good time to journal as you contemplate the core structures in your life.

April 28th 2016 – May 21st 2016 (Taurus) – an excellent time to focus on what you truly value, including self-value.

August 30th 2016 – September 21st 2016 (Virgo) – an ideal time to pay attention to the mind-body connection as related to health and wellbeing.

December 19th 2016 (Sagittarius) – January 7th 2017 (Capricorn) – a great time to look at your beliefs, particularly in relation to authority.
