Margaret Gray, B.A Trinity College Dublin, MSW, D. Psych. Astrology. Member of ISAR (on the board of directors for four years), NCGR, the UK Astrological Association, OPA and C*I*A. (Registered member of the Mediators’ Institute of Ireland)
Where did it all begin?
My lifelong interest in astrology became a passion when I first started my formal studies in Astrology in the late 80’s in Bristol, UK with Psychological Astrologer, Cate Reidy. Following 6 years of weekly classes, I completed the three year Diploma course at the Centre for Psychological Astrology in London (Jungian focus) where I was awarded a distinction with my Diploma. Whilst there, I had the good fortune of studying with Liz Greene, Melanie Reinhart, Lynn Bell and the late Charles Harvey amongst many others. I also discovered with great delight that my now 90+ year old aunt has been an astrologer since her 40’s!
Bringing the CPA to the USA
In 2005 a CPA colleague and I were elected by Liz Greene to set up the International section of the CPA. We organized and taught the first CPA Psychological Astrology foundation course and seminar outside the UK in San Francisco. This was a huge success, leading to further courses in Newport Beach, New York and Dublin. With the CPA no longer offering a certified course, I set up a certified two year professional training course in 2013 in Psychological Astrology via IAA. Teachers included: Melanie Reinhart, Brian Clark, Jane Ridder-Patrick, Donna Woodwell and Graham Ibell. From 2016 this two year course will run via Astrology University with additional tutors including Armand Diaz, Eric Myers, Rachel Lang, Dr. Yvonne Klitsner and Dr. Marcia Ferreira Silva. I also taught several online courses with Kepler College.
The Here and Now
My Astrological work has evolved over the past few years, merging a soul centered focus with a psychological approach. I continue to offer individual and couple consultations as well as teaching courses and seminars internationally online, by phone and in person. I was the book reviewer for the ISAR journal for 5 years and I continue to write a regular astrology feature for Network Ireland Magazine having previously written for Positive Life Magazine for 3 years. I have also contributed to the UK Astrological Association journal as well as the NCGR journal and ‘Inside Out Ireland’. In 2013 I was elected to the ISAR board of directors.
Other Training and Credentials
My primary degree is in Sociology from Trinity College Dublin. I later completed an MSW in Clinical Social Work in the USA and worked for 17 years in the voluntary and statutory sectors in Ireland and the UK. My clinical work spanned child abuse, addictions, fostering, adoption and domestic violence. I also taught Social Work at the University of the West of England for two years. Over the years I continued attending training, supervision and therapy with an ongoing interest in depth and Transpersonal psychology. I am also an accredited Life/Vocation Coach, NLP practitioner and Reiki Master and I trained in Past Life Regression with Dr. Brian Weiss. From 2000 – 2004 I co-owned and directed ‘The Bristol School of Holistic Therapies’ in the UK where I also taught astrology. Following my interest in Conflict Resolution and Non Violent Communication I am now working part-time as a Workplace and Family Mediation Consultant.
What informs me?
My work as a Psychological Astrologer is informed by my belief in the power of the unconscious and particularly by the writings of Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, Marian Woodman, James Hollis and Liz Greene. I view the chart as a symbolic tool which can assist us in understanding the core themes we have chosen to experience on a soul level in this lifetime. I am also informed by Reiki and the writings of Edgar Cayce, Neale Donald Walsh, Marianne Williamson, Eckhart Tolle and Gary Zukav amongst many others.
One of my great passions in life is the ocean. Having grown up on a small Island, I have always felt a sense of comfort surrounded by a large body of water and since childhood, I have had a fascination with the different shapes and shades of the ocean waves. My other interests include non-fiction writing and boogie boarding.
My main focus and motivation as a Psychological Astrologer is to facilitate ways of remembering and living out our Soul Purpose in this lifetime and enjoying fulfilling soul focused loving relationships. Accessing meaning and joy within each of us through a deeper understanding of our birth chart, can support us in living out the most expansive and creative version of who we each are. In remembering who we truly are and following our hopes and dreams, we enable others to do the same. This I believe, is our greatest gift to ourselves and to each other.
